“I started bike racing quite late, 30 years plus, but quickly realized that it was a sport I loved. When I found myself in Rhodes with my work I learned that the custom bike builder Cycles Fidusa was based there. On visiting their showroom and seeing all the wonderful bikes I had no idea what to choose. This was my first meeting with George Voyatzis and he immediately advised me to change my priorities about what was important when choosing a new bike “First we will fix your position on your current bike and then we will decide about a new one””.
When I first met John he was new to the sport, overweight and looking for a new bike but not sufficiently experienced to know exactly what to look for. I explained that fit and position are vital – first we have to fix these and then we will proceed with a new frame.
We first adjusted his position on his existing, generic brand bike but could not get an optimum fit. A body measurement using the BikeFitting measuring system confirmed this and we found that he could probably not get a good fit on any ‘stock’ frame, having relatively short legs compared to his overall height and good flexibility which meant that he needed a quite short head-tube to get low enough for a good aerodynamic position.
He chose a made-to-measure custom Chimera carbon frame and specified the actual tube shapes he wanted including a ‘teardrop’ aero seat tube. A unique, custom paint-job was specified to match his team colours and a bow graphic was applied to match the frame design.
